The newspaper “Leisure Dossier” about the exhibition “Medusa’s Mouth” (No. 4, February 24, 1995)

Exhibition “Mouth of the Medusa” – a reason to sharply and unusually express oneself about a woman. Each of the twenty participants will try to look into the soul of the female, considering the causes and consequences not only of female slavery but also of emancipation, which took on a total character in the 20th century, using visual and other, related and artistic means from both male and female perspectives.

The exhibition space will be organized as a mirror labyrinth. The mirror reflects the myth of beauty created by men, who essentially are the clients of a certain ideal. It is precisely in the mirror that a woman seeks confirmation of this ideal. Natalia Filonenko’s labyrinth is interpreted as a symbol of the duality of female consciousness and its incomprehensibility to men, as the embodiment of its absolutized opposite. The effects of the mirror space will be enhanced by specially selected lighting and music.Comment type: Published comment
