Along with this, in “Crooked Mirrors” one can discern the manifestation of such a characteristic feature of the art of the 90s, which was named the “new anthropological shift.” This feature was clearly manifested in other Ukrainian authors as well – in the works of S. Solonsky, built on form-distorting effects of accommodation and manual collage; in the absurd adrenaline plasticity of the Donbas photo cycle by A. Savadov and A. Kharchenko; in the frank horror of the documentary thanatography of the video film by V. Muzhesky “Phosphorus Flesh”; in the endoscopic physiologism of the video by A. Hankevich “Rings of Saturn”… Much has already been said and written about the principles of such a “shift,” so let us emphasize the main point here: the discussion is not only about the resurrection of the old hero of art – the body, but above all about corporality, extended beyond its own limits by new technologies, the “posthuman” dimension. One approaches such a feeling/understanding of corporality, for example, when perceiving “Apocalypso” – a video work by the Odessa native G. Katchuk, in which such now universal means, meanings, and subtexts are combined as 3D animation, morphing, language play, artificial blood, mutation, cyberbody, psychedelic practice, etc.
These are some features of the development of contemporary art of the 90s in Ukraine. They quite correspond to a General Plan seemingly composed by an unknown author, showing, with a few exceptions, rather the properties of reflections than generating pulsations. However, it seems that today this is a general syndrome of artistic creativity.Тип коментаря: Опублікований коментар
