O. Solovyov and A. Lozhkina about the “Kyiv Art Meeting”

Publications

“The project was destined for an unenviable fate. The curator invited leading artists from Poland (Yaros, Libera), the most radical representatives of the Russian art scene (Osmolovsky, AES group, Kulik, Belyaev), and Ukrainians (Raevsky, Tistol with Matsenko, Tsagolov, ‘Mazokha Foundation’) to Kyiv. Tistol and Matsenko created a special ‘Money Project’ for the exhibition – a large-scale spatial installation that perfectly fit into the aura of the Ukrainian House. Also shown at the exhibition was Vasily Tsagolov’s photo film ‘Criminal Week’ and the work of the ‘Mazokha Foundation’ – ‘The Last Jewish Pogrom.’ The project had a considerable provocative charge, but it seemed that nothing foretold a storm. However, its opening coincided with the celebrations for the National Guard of Ukraine, which were simultaneously held at the Ukrainian House. Just a few hours after the opening and press preview, the exhibition was closed – the guards in parade uniform, wearing spotless white gloves, were so outraged by its content that they personally removed the works from the walls”.
