Parkomuna. Place. Community. Phenomenon

The book is based on research conducted prior to the exhibition of the same name held in October 2016. The aim of the exhibition was to explore the phenomenon of the squat that existed in Kyiv from 1990 to 1994 on Paris Commune Street (now Mykhailivska Street). The book includes articles that reveal the history of the squat, analyse the exhibition activities of its participants, and examine the significance of Parkomuna as a phenomenon in its own right. All information is presented within the historical context of the late 1980s and early 1990s and is supported by archival materials collected by the research platform’s team from participants in the Ukrainian art scene.
