The book “Fedir Tetyanych. FRIPULYA”
Description
This book is dedicated to the life and work of Fedir Tetianych (1942–2007) — a Ukrainian artist whose artistic practice encompassed happenings, painting, printmaking, objects, installations in public spaces, and more. Tetyanych is known primarily for his concept of ‘Fripulia’, which at a certain point became the name of its creator.
As an artist, Fedir Tetianych came of age in the late 1960s, when Khrushchev’s ‘Thaw’ was still reverberating in the USSR, whilst Arte Povera and Fluxus were making a resounding impact in Europe and the USA. His way of life and his perception of life as a continuous performance largely align Tetyanych’s practice with these artistic movements; at the same time, he did not shy away from creating monumental works commissioned by the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR.
Published to mark the exhibition ‘Fedir Tetianych. The Canon of Fripulia’ as part of the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform.
