It seems the artist is “playing with fire” (photo comics on the theme of seven types of suicides). Or — “walking through the line of fire” (in “Jaggernut,” two friends first fall into some parallel reality, and then resurface in an ordinary mental hospital). But there is no doubt that in doing so, Protsenko manages not only to avoid getting burned himself but also not to expose the viewer to such danger. His fire is cold, his passion is frozen, despite playing with all the facets of the crystal. The perfectionism of the artistic form, achieved by him with apparent ease, demands sacrifices. To twist the old aphorism: if sparklers ignite, then for someone are they “lighthouse-like”? Kirill Protsenko’s art does not warm, but it never promised to do so from the start. Instead, it grants intoxication with artistry and the sophistication of the author’s concept.Comment type: Published comment
