Soros Center for Contemporary Art in Kyiv
The Soros Center for Contemporary Art in Kyiv (Soros CCA – Kyiv, SCCA – Kyiv), 1993 – 2008, was a charitable organization founded in Ukraine by George Soros to support and develop contemporary visual art. It became part of the international SCCA network. It introduced a grant system aimed at supporting exhibitions organized by Ukrainian curators, funding art projects, participation of Ukrainian artists in international exhibitions and symposiums, dissemination of information about opportunities to participate in international exhibitions and internships in the field of contemporary art, distribution of various materials and international periodicals on the theory and practice of contemporary visual art.
In the autumn of 1995, Soros CCA – Kyiv moved to a restored historic 18th-century building (next to the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy) and transformed into a multi-structured art organization that founded and developed three autonomous programs: Info Media Bank, Gallery Program, Educational and Grant Program.
That same year, the SCCA gallery opened, where, among others, participants of the center’s programs could exhibit.
At Soros CCA worked Jerzy Onuch (director), Marta Kuzma (Gallery Program director), Lyudmyla Motsyuk (Educational and Grant Program coordinator), Nataliya Manzhaliy (Info Media Bank coordinator), Yulia Vaganova, Kateryna Stukalova, Olga Zhuk, Nadiya Pryhodych, Kateryna Kit.
