Description

Published on the occasion of a solo exhibition by Nikita Kadan Stone Hits Stone and within the framework of the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform.

At the heart of artist Nikita Kadan’s practice lies the historical past in the form of ideologies, art and acts of political violence. He delves into the works of the (Ukrainian) avant-garde and engages with the history of the past century in Ukraine. With a keen sense of relevance, Kadan speaks of history as the present day. However, the exhibition goes beyond historical facts, examining the political violence embedded in binary worldviews. It makes the very question of memory the subject of artistic expression, exposing and contrasting the political wounds inflicted upon it.
